Two Dozen Seniors Honored by Town at 41st Annual Event

Great Neck, NY– Town of North Hempstead Supervisor Jon Kaiman, the Town Board, and the Department of Community Services welcomed hundreds of Town residents last week to the 41st Annual Senior Recognition Luncheon at Leonard’s Palazzo. The event honored twenty-four seniors from across North Hempstead for their outstanding and selfless service to the community and to various senior groups.

“We have so many great leaders in this room who have stepped up to give back to the community,” Supervisor Kaiman said to the crowd of over 350. “You help lift us up, and for that so many people have benefited.”

Supervisor Kaiman also referenced the Town’s Project Independence program as one way that the Town can give back to our seniors and their families. “Services like Project Independence give you the quality of life that you deserve and helped build,” he exclaimed.

Many of the seniors in attendance utilize Project Independence to help them with their everyday needs, such as transportation for medical visits, grocery shopping, nursing services, and social work services. Honorees Gerald Peretsman of Great Neck and Barry and Zandra Greene of New Hyde Park volunteer for Project Independence and are extremely instrumental in community outreach.

Honoree Frank DiBenedetto from Williston Park wakes up at 4:00am each morning and prepares the kitchen and coffee for the Herricks Leisure Club. “I love helping people and this community is my family,” he said.

Elected officials in attendance included Councilman Angelo Ferrara, Councilwomen Lee Seeman and Anna Kaplan, County Legislator Judi Bosworth, and Receiver of Taxes Charles Berman.
