North Hempstead’s Environmental Festival EcoFest Draws Thousands

Albertson, NY–Over 5,000 residents from the Town of North Hempstead and the surrounding region flocked to Clark Botanical Garden this past weekend for North Hempstead’s Annual EcoFest Celebration.

The free, two-day, interactive environmental festival at the 12-acre Clark Botanic Garden took place on Saturday, April 27, and Sunday, April 28 this year. The centerpiece of the Town’s month-long effort to educate children on the environment featured crafts, lawn games, and musical performances.

This event also marked the grand re-opening for Clark Botanical Garden. The 12-acre grounds were closed to the public ever since Superstorm Sandy struck in late October. Sandy took down over 50 of Clark’s most mature trees, severely damaging the apiary that produces fresh honey, and broke walkways, railings, and benches.

“This is really an amazing event, and this year is no exception,” said Supervisor Jon Kaiman. “There are people here not just from our Town, but from all over Long Island, because of the great entertainment that we have to offer for the whole family, and the picturesque landscape of Clark Garden.”

Councilman Tom Dwyer attended the event and added, “I come to this event every year and I always find it to be such a delight for the whole family. Whether your preference is to just take a stroll through the garden, or enjoy the music and wildlife displays, there’s truly something for everyone.”

Supervisor Kaiman joined in on the fun by wearing a boa constrictor, courtesy of fan favorite guest Eriks’ Reptile Edventures. Rousing musical performances from the Hip Pickles Drum Band provided “music with a message” to the children. Volunteers for Wildlife also provided fascinating tidbits about Long Island’s nature and environment.
