FamilyFest 2012 a Huge Hit with Residents!

North Hempstead, NY– Winding down North Hempstead’s season of summer festivals, the Town’s 8th Annual FamilyFest attracted what Supervisor Jon Kaiman and the Town Board announced was the largest gathering in the history of the beach-front gala.

More than 4,500 people attended the Sept. 9 festival at North Hempstead Beach Park in Port Washington, the Town’s Parks Department reported.

“The unprecedented success of this festival serves as testament to North Hempstead’s commitment to provide family-oriented entertainment and opportunities for the community to meet and socialize,” Supervisor Kaiman said.

Four bands performed. Almost Queen got the crowd to join in on their anthem, “We Are the Champions”. Total Soul, a captivating dance band and the day’s final act, got practically every audience member to their feet. Their Michael Jackson impersonation (dance moves and all), and performance of “Billy Jean” conjured up images of the King of Pop.

Throughout the day, the record crowd also amused themselves with the array of activities on tap, including, face painting, a petting zoo, kite flying, a rock wall, the New York Knicks Basketball Groove Truck featuring skill competitions, the Islander’s Ice Tour, and video game tournaments, to name a few.

The Touch Tank of Sea Creatures and Eric’s Wild Animal Show were especially popular with the younger attendees.

The post-card perfect weather accommodated, allowing attendees to fill the skies with colorful kites and kayakers to take in the picturesque vistas of the harbor.

Several North Hempstead officials, including Town Clerk Leslie Gross, Councilwomen Anna Kaplan and Lee Seeman, Parks Commissioner Jennifer Fava, and Executive Director of BTDC Louise Fishman, joined in the fun.

Congressman Steve Israel, Nassau County Legislators Wayne Wink and Jodi Bosworth, Nassau County Supreme Court Judge Leonard Austin, and Nassau County District Court Judge Scott Fairgrieve also enjoyed the day’s events.
