Come Celebrate “National Night Out 2012” on August 7th

North Hempstead, NY– Supervisor Jon Kaiman and Town Councilwoman Viviana Russell invite residents to join them, along with other North Hempstead and Nassau County elected officials and law enforcement representatives, in celebrating “National Night Out 2012”, the annual crime and drug prevention rally.

“National Night Out” will be held August 7th at Martin “Bunky” Reid Park at Broadway and Railroad Street in Westbury. The parade assembles at 5:00 p.m. at the Salvation Army, 992 Prospect Avenue in Westbury and the festivities begin at 5:30 p.m. in the park.

“National Night Out is not just an opportunity support local anti-crime programs but it’s also a gathering for residents to meet each other,” Supervisor Kaiman said. “With the massive revitalization winding down and a long-dreamed of community center opening soon, the New Cassel area is truly a vibrant community. A unified front among residents will further ensure that it will remain that way going forward.”

Sponsored by the U.S. Department of Justice, with support from a host of local businesses and institutions including North Shore Child & Family Guidance Center and the New Cassel/Westbury Community-wide Partnership, “National Night Out” promotes neighborhood anti-crime efforts, crime and drug-prevention awareness, and police-community partnerships.

“’National Night Out’ is the occasion when we come together as one to say, ‘we don’t want drugs and crime in our neighborhood’,” said Councilwoman Viviana Russell, a longtime New Cassel resident. “We are a diverse community and by working as one, we can strengthen our neighborhood spirit to not only protect our quality of life, but enhance it.”

“National Night Out: America's Night Out Against Crime”, was introduced in 1984 by the National Association of Town Watch (NATW). The program was the brainchild of NATW Executive Director Matt A. Peskin.

In an effort to heighten awareness, strengthen participation in local anticrime efforts, and promote community-law enforcement partnerships, Peskin felt that a high-profile, high-impact type of crime prevention event was needed nationally.

The event, New Cassel’s 29th, will feature music, dancing, refreshments, arts & crafts, raffles, health screenings, giveaways, and much more.

As it has been from the very beginning, it is coordinated and sponsored by the North Shore Child and Family Guidance Center. For more information, please call 311.
