Receiver Berman Reminds Residents That The Tax Exemption Filing Deadline Nears
Residents must apply by January 2nd

North Hempstead, NY
North Hempstead Receiver of Taxes Charles Berman reminds all residents that the deadline to file for property tax exemptions is January 2nd, 2012. All applications must be filed with the Nassau County Department of Assessment by that date.

Exemptions available to North Hempstead homeowners who qualify are the Basic Star and Enhanced Star Exemptions, the Limited Income Senior Citizens Exemption, Limited Income Disability Exemption, Veterans Exemption (including Cold War Veterans), Volunteer Firefighter Exemption, Home Improvement Exemption, First Time Home Buyer Exemption, and the Physically Disabled Home Improvement Exemption.

“Although my office does not administer the exemption program, my staff and I are here as a source of information and to help our residents obtain the exemptions they qualify for,” said Receiver Berman. “I urge every homeowner to take full advantage of these valuable tax-savings exemptions.”

Charles Berman also alerts residents that some private companies solicit homeowners to use their services to apply for exemptions. The companies in some cases charge exorbitant fees. All exemptions can be applied for directly by the homeowner without professional assistance.

To learn more about property tax exemption information or to obtain applications residents can visit www.northhempsteadny.gov/taxes. Or by contacting the Nassau County Department of Assessment directly at 240 Old Country Road, 4th Floor Mineola NY, 516-571-1500 or go to www.mynassauproperty.com.
