Free Seminar Explores Emerging Opportunities for Downtown Revival

Manhasset, NY—The historic economic meltdown and its dire impact on major shopping centers and big box stores hold promising opportunities for Main Streets’ come-back, according to experts.

With that in mind, North Hempstead Supervisor Jon Kaiman announced today that the town of North Hempstead’s Business & Tourism Development Corp. is sponsoring a seminar aimed at arming small business owners, Chambers of Commerce and downtown-oriented organizations with information related to revitalizing their community’s downtown.

"The Town's goal is to provide small businesses with every opportunity to succeed during the current economic crisis," said Supervisor Kaiman.  "We encourage all small business owners to attend this free and informative seminar."

The free seminar, “Revitalizing Your Main Corridor: Streetscape Design and Managing your Downtown Parking,” is scheduled to convene from 8:00—10:00 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 22 at Harbor Links Golf Course in Port Washington.

A free breakfast will be served as attendees feed on timely advice relating to the process of Main Street development and where to get technical assistance and financial help.

The panel of presenters includes Victor Dadras, R.A., Principal, Dadras Architects, NYC; Thomas M. Brown, Senior Associate, Nelson/Nygaard, Consulting Assoc., NYC and Christian Leo, Director of the NY Main Street Program of New York State’s Office of Community Renewal.

Joe Rabito, the deputy commissioner of the state’s Division of Housing and Community Renewal said his agency has requested economic stimulus funding to help turn around Main Streets across the state. “We are encouraged about the potential opportunities for downtown revitalization,” Rabito said.
