Hundreds Gather for Town’s Annual Christmas Tree Lighting

Manhasset,NY--Braving chilly temperatures, hundreds flocked to Mary Jane Davies Park recently to share in a holiday event that has become a festive, fun-filled town of North Hempstead tradition: The annual Manhasset Christmas Tree lighting.

More than 400 revelers sipped hot chocolate and munched on doughnuts and cookies as Supervisor Jon Kaiman greeted eager, wide-eyed children and their families amidst a backdrop of holiday music by the Manhasset High School Brass Choir.

“The annual Christmas tree lighting has become as much of a tradition as it has an inspiration for hope that our increasingly diverse community will continue to share joyous moments like this and work together for the future betterment of our town,” Supervisor Kaiman said.

Sponsored by the Manhasset Park District and the Lakeville Fire and Water District in partnership with the Town of North Hempstead and the Manhasset Chamber of Commerce, the event also featured a poster contest for pre-school through sixth-grade students.

Santa Clause also made an appearance after the tree was lit.
