Renovations to Michael J. Tully Indoor Pool

Memo

Re:          Renovations to Michael J. Tully Indoor Pool

For nearly 30 years, the indoor pool at Michael J. Tully park has provided Town Residents with the opportunity to participate in healthful, enjoyable aquatic activities. Through all of this time, the pool has been maintained much as originally designed and built, and through careful and prudent maintenance, has lasted well beyond it’s initial projected life. As we approach the 30 year mark, it is time to renovate and re-vision the pool for the future needs of Town Residents. The Town is currently in the process of having design specifications drawn up for a complete renovation of the pool and it’s supporting utilities.

Our current timetable is to finish up the current swim season, which is scheduled to end on April 25, 2008, and to then close the facility until the renovations are complete. At the present time, we are hopeful of being able to hold to this schedule, and to keep the pool open until April 25.

However, there are certain mechanical conditions which have begun to deteriorate more quickly than were anticipated when plans for our renovation were being drawn up. Since it is impossible to predict with any certainty how long we may be able to maintain these mechanical systems, I feel it is important to let all of you know that should one of these systems fail, the pool may have to be closed prior to our projected April 25 date.

Be assured that Town Personnel will do all that is possible to avoid this situation, and to keep the pool open until the conclusion of the current session.

I ask that you bear with us during the coming months, and look forward to welcoming you back to the New Michael J. Tully Physical Activities Center.
