Town Receives 1 Millionth Service Request to 311 Call Center

North Hempstead, NY – The Town of North Hempstead’s 311 Call Center recently reached a milestone as the 1,000,000th service request was created by a 311 Service Representative. The 1,000,000th service request was to request a taxi ride through Project Independence’s Taxi Service program. The 311 Call Center was created in 2005 to be a centralized place to answer inquiries from North Hempstead constituents. 311 Service Representatives are the first point of contact for anyone trying to reach various departments within the town.

“This is quite a landmark for the Town,” said Supervisor Bosworth. “It is gratifying to see our residents are making the most of our 311 Call Center and the convenient ‘one-stop shopping’ approach it offers them. Our superb Service Representatives effectively record and address all types of requests from our residents and callers are also able to check the status of their requests online. Since the inception of our 311 Call Center system, many other municipalities have followed suit.”

“It’s an amazing accomplishment,” said Vincent Malizia, Commissioner of the 311 Call Center. “We are proud to have contributed to helping this great community in such a personal and positive way.”

Of the 1,000,000th service requests made through the 311 Call Center, the most popular calls were regarding Project Independence, the Highway Department and requests for the Street Lighting District (District in charge of the maintenance of street lights throughout the Town). So far in 2018 the most popular service request was to request a taxi from the Project Independence taxi service. Through May, 2018 the Town has averaged 3,256 calls answered per week and for the year of 2017, the Town answered 174,789 calls.

Requests for services are entered by representatives into a work-order format and sent to the appropriate department for review and immediate processing. Those work-orders are tracked to ensure that requests are completed and the constituent is satisfied.

The 311 Call Center is open Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The 311 Call Center can be reached by calling 311 from inside the Town and 516-869-6311 from outside of the Town.
