North Hempstead Tax Receiver Accepting Pre-Payment of 2018 General Property Taxes
Residents can pay online at:
North Hempstead, NY – The North Hempstead Tax Receiver’s Office is now accepting prepayment of 2018 general property taxes, according to Tax Receiver Charles Berman. Taxes can be paid three ways: in person at the Tax Receiver’s Office, 200 Plandome Road in Manhasset, online or by mail up to December 31, 2017.
For questions regarding deductibility of the pre-payment of property taxes on Federal income taxes, Tax Receiver Berman encourages taxpayers to contact the Internal Revenue Service and/or their tax/accounting professional.
Due to the huge increase in foot traffic at the tax office and long lines forming before the 9 a.m. opening on this very chilly day, the Town of North Hempstead quickly instituted a numbers system and sent taxpayers to the Town Board room to keep warm. Customers were called in order of their numbers and escorted to the tax receiver’s office or to a satellite tax receiver’s office that has been set up at Town Hall.
“It’s all hands on deck here at Town Hall and at our Tax Receiver’s office,” said North Hempstead Town Supervisor Judi Bosworth. “Dozens of Town employees from other departments have been trained to process tax payments in order to assist Tax Receiver office employees. We’ve called in many Town employees from vacations to help out with a variety of needs. It’s been a huge team effort as we all assist with answering questions, direct customers where to go, answer phone calls and get the most updated information into the hands of our residents. Everyone here seems to be handling a frustrating experience with with grace and patience.”
“We have processed thousands of tax payments in the past few days, the Town’s 311 Call Center has answered more phone calls than after Superstorm Sandy and we are extending our hours right through the weekend,” said Tax Receiver Berman.
The Tax Receiver Office hours have been extended today until 7 p.m.; Dec. 29-- 9 a.m. until 7 p.m.; Dec. 30-- 9 a.m. until 5 p.m.; Dec 31 – 9 a.m. until 5 p.m.
