Town Expands Open Government Initiatives with Posting of Board Meeting & BZA Transcribed Minutes

North Hempstead, NY – North Hempstead Town Supervisor Judi Bosworth, Town Clerk Wayne Wink and the Town Board announced today that all Town Board and Board of Zoning Appeals meetings’ transcribed minutes for January 2017 through September 2017 are now posted on the Town’s website, expanding even further the Supervisor’s Open Government initiatives and transparency. New minutes will be posted as they are received by the Clerk’s Office.

Transcripts will still need to be transcribed by the official stenographer service contracted by the Town, which usually takes about 6-8 weeks, according to the Town Clerk’s Office. The documents can be viewed at http://www.northhempstead.com/content/16253/19819/16521/default.aspx (BZA)
And http://www.northhempstead.com/2017-Agendas-Minutes (Town Board).

“I am very pleased with this new initiative to make board meeting transcripts more easily available to the public,” said Supervisor Bosworth. “Accessing public information shouldn’t require jumping through hoops.”

“Increasing the public’s access to this important information is yet another example of how we can make our town government more transparent than ever,” added Town Clerk Wink.

Previously, transcribed minutes from prior Town Board and BZA meetings had to be requested through the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) and were fulfilled by the Town Clerk’s office and the Town Attorney. There was never a charge for these FOIA requests.
