FunDay Monday 2016 Season Ends with “HomeTown USA” Event!

Program is designed to get more homes and businesses to install solar and lower energy costs

North Hempstead, NY – Town of North Hempstead Supervisor Judi Bosworth and the Town Board are pleased to announce that the final FunDay Monday of the 2016 season will be “HomeTown USA” on August 29.  “HomeTown USA” will feature a salute to our Armed Forces and celebrate American traditions.  It is part of the Town’s FunDay Monday program, which is a free senior program held at North Hempstead Beach Park in Port Washington, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Monday throughout the summer.

The Northport VA Mobile Unit will also be at the event and equipped with eligibility specialist to explain benefits, provide medical evaluations, and assist veterans in applying for a VA medical card.  To reserve a time slot with the mobile unit, call (631) 261-4400, ext. 7084.

This FunDay Monday is sponsored by Northwell Health, Parker Jewish, and AgeWell New York, and hosted by the Town’s Department of Community Services.  FunDay Monday offers hundreds of seniors from across the Town an opportunity to gather for games, music, dancing, entertainment, and exercise.

“‘HomeTown USA’ is one of our most well-attended FunDay Mondays,” said Supervisor Bosworth.  “It’s an exciting celebration of American traditions including a special Salute to our Armed Forces. The day is also filled with hobbies, crafts, musical performances, and even a classic car show!”

In addition to enjoying the celebrations, seniors can participate in a variety of activities, such as Line Dancing (10 a.m.), Zumba (10a.m.), Fitness (11a.m.), Mahjong (11 a.m.), and Tai Chi (12:30 p.m.).

FREE transportation is available from various points throughout the Town. For further information, or for a pick-up location near you, please call 311 or dial (516) 869-6311.
