Town Recognizes Enforcement Officials in Honor of Building Safety Month

North Hempstead, NY – North Hempstead Town Supervisor Judi Bosworth and the Town Board recently honored code enforcement and safety officials in honor of Building Safety Month, which the Town will be recognizing in May.

Building Safety Month is a public awareness campaign created by the International Code Council (ICC) to help individuals, families and businesses understand what it takes to create safe and sustainable structures. The campaign reinforces the need for adoption of modern, model building codes, a strong and efficient system of code enforcement and a well-trained, professional workforce to maintain the system.

“We are so pleased that the Town of North Hempstead is taking an active role in promoting Building Safety Month,” says Dorothy Harris, Vice President of State & Local Government Relations with the International Code Council (ICC). “Addressing resiliency and innovation in the built environment while promoting public awareness and individual involvement all contribute to safer and more affordable communities. We appreciate North Hempstead’s efforts to promote Building Safety Month to help individuals, families and businesses understand what it takes to create safe and sustainable structures.”

“It is important to recognize May as Building Safety Month and raise awareness about building codes and to honor those who enforce and implement these codes in order to keep the places where we work, live and visit safe and sound,” said Supervisor Bosworth.

In honor of upcoming Building Safety Month, Supervisor Bosworth and the Town board acknowledged Vincent J. McManus, Division Supervisor Nassau County Fire Marshals – Fire Inspection Bureau (Special Facilities Division) and Stephen N. Haramis, President of Building Inspectors Association of Nassau County (BIANCO) with proclamations for their hard work towards enforcing and applying building safety regulations to the community.

“Our members work with jurisdictions like North Hempstead, N.Y., to ensure code compliance and that the places we all live, learn, work, worship and play are safe,” says Stephen N. Haramis, President of the Building Inspectors Association of Nassau County (BIANCO) ,an International Code Council local chapter.

Another way the Town will be recognizing Building Safety Month is by offering a coupon to get 30% off any Kidde brand smoke detector or carbon monoxide detector. To receive the coupon, visit the Building Department at 210 Plandome Road in Manhasset.
