Awards will be issued honoring prominent African American members of the North Hempstead community who have displayed remarkable generosity in their care and service of the Town. One honoree will be selected from each council district.

“This celebration allows all of us to reflect on the great leaders of African descent in our community and our appreciation for all they have done for us,” said Council Member Russell.

“It is extremely important that we take every opportunity, not only during the month of February, to celebrate our rich and unique cultural heritage; but more importantly to ensure that this rich legacy is passed on to our children and future generations,” added Arts Council Black History Celebration Chair Pat Jenkins Lewis.
