Hundreds Kick off Holiday Festivities at the Annual Manhasset Tree Lighting Ceremony

Manhasset, NY – Hundreds of Town residents, and community leaders joined with North Hempstead Town Supervisor Judi Bosworth and members of the Town Board on December 8th for the celebration of a holiday event that has become a North Hempstead tradition – the Annual Manhasset Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony.

A crowd of several hundred people, enjoyed hot chocolate and musical entertainment as the festivities played out at Mary Jane Davies Park. Town Councilwoman Anna Kaplan, whose district encompasses Manhasset was also on hand, as well as Town Clerk Wayne Wink, Councilmen Angelo Ferrara and Peter Zuckerman, and Councilwomen Lee Seeman and Dina De Giorgio.

Supervisor Bosworth thanked the crowd as well as the co-sponsors of the program, the Manhasset Chamber of Commerce, the Manhasset Lakeville Fire and Water District, the Manhasset Park District, as well as the Town’s Administrative Services and Community Services Departments, which all worked to coordinate the celebration. She also recognized the Nassau County Police Department’s 3rd Precinct for their assistance and Manhasset Bagels for their donation of the hot chocolate.

“It is so heartwarming to see such a festive group of people here today to gather for this annual tradition. It is truly wonderful that this tree has become a landmark right here in the heart of the Manhasset community for so many years,” said Supervisor Bosworth.

Earlier, members of the Manhasset American Legion Post 304 led the crowd in the pledge of allegiance. Father David Sibley from the Christ Church Episcopal performed the blessing and the Manhasset High School Brass Choir, directed by Randy Knudsen, played traditional Christmas music.

Nancy Morris, Co-President of the Manhasset Chamber of Commerce, handed out awards to the winners of the annual holiday poster contest, ranging in age from kindergarten to sixth grade. The grand prize winner will be selected via a public vote on the Manhasset Chamber of Commerce website at www.ManhassetNY.org until January 1.
