Carle Place, NY– Supervisor Jon Kaiman and Councilman Robert Troiano announced that the Town has approved the rezoning of a property located at the north side of Westbury Avenue, between Jamaica Boulevard and Silver Lake Boulevard in Carle Place from Industrial B to Business B.The site is commonly referred to as the “Albraco” property by residents of Carle Place.

“The property has been a sore point for many years because it is inconsistent with the character of the rest of Westbury Avenue.” Councilman Troiano said.“The zoning change will facilitate development of the property in a manner that is consistent with themes identified by residents in a project initiated by the Town earlier this year to give revitalize Westbury Avenue.”

For more than 50 years the property along Westbury Avenue has been zoned Industrial B to accommodate a manufacturer / supplier to the US Military during World War II.It was the only property in the area where industrial uses were permitted. The property in recent years has been a blight on the surrounding neighborhood businesses and adjacent residential community.

“The action initiated by Councilman Troiano and adopted by the Town Board last night will make sure the property and its ultimate redevelopment will have a positive effect on the character of the area and the quality of life in Carle Place,” added Supervisor Kaiman.

The action is a result of a walking tour Councilman Troiano took with members of the Carle Place Civic Association including Gloria Minuto (pictured above).
