Port Holiday Magic Encourages Residents to Shop Local this Holiday Season
Annual Festival with Entertainment, Discounts & Specials Takes Place Dec. 4

Port Washington, NY – Whether it is picking out that perfect gift for a friend or family member, or watching the first snowflake fall from the sky, there are so many unique joys during the holiday season. The Port Washington Business Improvement District, the Port Washington Chamber of Commerce, Residents for a More Beautiful Port Washington, and the Town of North Hempstead invite residents to create another memorable moment this year by attending the Annual Port Holiday Magic festival.

The 4th Annual event that is becoming a staple each holiday season along Main Street and adjacent streets in Port Washington, takes place Wednesday, December 4th from 5:00pm to 8:00pm. This year there is a special focus on encouraging residents to ‘Shop Local’.

“A much greater percentage of money spent in the community stays in the community so by shopping with local merchants, you will be supporting Port, and during Port Holiday Magic you will be saving money,” all event sponsors said in a joint statement.

More than four dozen great shopping destinations will offer outstanding discounts so shopping local for the holidays will not only benefit the local economy, but will also be easier on shoppers’ wallets. Business owners will also offer special activities for children and raffles.

Just for shopping local this holiday season, shoppers will be entered into a raffle drawing to win one of dozens of prizes including a $300 bonus prize. All shoppers have to do is pick up an entry form at any participating store, then visit at least eight stores participating in Port Holiday Magic between December 4th and December 15th.

While shopping, residents will be entertained by clowns from the Big Apple Circus, dazzled by talented dancers and balloon twisters, and serenaded by live musicians. These performers will be strolling up and down Main Street all night, turning Port Washington into a venerable winter wonderland. Adding to the festive atmosphere, store windows will be decorated with unique splendor as the Port Washington Chamber is holding a contest for the best decorated windows. This is in addition to the traditional lamppost decorations installed by the Chamber.

More entertainment will be ongoing at the Port Washington train station including music from the Schreiber High School choir and other religious organizations, as well as a Menorah lighting at 6:00pm to celebrate the last night of Hanukkah.

For added convenience, the Town of North Hempstead will be sponsoring an old-fashioned trolley that will offer free rides from Port Washington Boulevard to the Town Dock.

Local merchants will be available to discuss what they have in store for this year’s event. Contact the North Hempstead press office at 869-7794 to speak with one of these local business owners. For more information and a full listing of participants visit www.portholidaymagic.com.
