North Hempstead Hosts Sixth Annual Kids Safety Day at Mary Jane Davies Green

Manhasset, NY
–To help promote child safety awareness and education, North Hempstead Town Councilwoman Anna Kaplan and Nassau County Legislator Judi Bosworth partnered to host the Sixth Annual North Hempstead Kids Safety Day showcasing a host of demonstrations and special displays.

More than 200 people attended the free September 25 event at the Mary Jane Davies Park, located on Plandome Road in Manhasset.

There were plenty of activities related to child safety available for the scores of young visitors to participate in. They included more than two dozen stations focusing on beach and pool safety, how to safely use the internet, child car seat safety checks, bullying, and Child ID cards for parents were provided by Town Clerk Leslie Gross’ office.

There were a lot of fun giveaways for the kids in attendance. And keeping with tradition, the Manhasset Lakeville Fire Department was on hand with a fire truck and smokehouse where children were instructed on how to escape a room caught on fire.

“The children are taught to crouch down low where air in the room is still cool enough to survive,” said Mike Farrone, the Deputy Chief of Co. 5.
