Town of North Hempstead Storm Update

North Hempstead, NY – North Hempstead Town Supervisor Judi Bosworth would like to inform you about what the Town is doing to make residents safe as the Blizzard of 2015 approaches. The Town will have more than 70 vehicles deployed including snow plows, pay loaders and trucks throughout the duration of the blizzard.

“The Town’s Highway Department has begun pretreating roads today and will continue to work and plow through the night,” Supervisor Bosworth said. “We are asking residents to park in their driveways to enable our crews to clear roadways. If there are any areas that are impassable, we encourage residents to call 311 to report them.”

The Town’s 311 call center will be open 24 hours to make sure that residents can get in touch with the Town at any time.

In the event of power outages, the Town has three warming centers ready to open. The locations are Tully Park Aquatic Activity Center, 1801 Evergreen Avenue in New Hyde Park, the “Yes We Can” Community Center, 141 Garden Street in Westbury, and the Port Washington Senior Center, 80 Manorhaven Boulevard in Port Washington.

The following cancellations have also been announced due to the weather:

  • Tuesday night’s Town Board meeting has been cancelled.
  • Town garbage pickup has been cancelled for Tuesday and Wednesday.
  • All parks and senior programming has been cancelled for Tuesday.
Supervisor Bosworth also reminds residents, “Please check in on any neighbors who may need your assistance during the storm.”
