Town Kicks Off Annual Operation Clean Sweep
Street Sweepers Will Hit Town Roads April 28-May 9

North Hempstead, NY – The centerpiece of the Town of North Hempstead’s spring cleaning efforts is back as Supervisor Judi Bosworth and the Town Board announced that this year’s Operation Clean Sweep program will return Monday, April 28 through Friday, May 9.

“With the toll that this winter season took on our Town roads, this program is more important than ever,” Supervisor Bosworth said. “Our Clean Sweep program will help to return our roads to the condition that our residents deserve.”

During this annual town-wide spring clean-up, more than a dozen environmentally friendly street sweepers will hit the road to remove detritus from Town streets. Approximately 2,000 tons of dirt and debris are removed from the roads each year, with an even higher total expected this year. In addition to sweeping roads, the Town’s Highway Department cleans catch basins, and sweeps handicap ramps during Clean Sweep.

From Monday, April 28 to Friday, May 2, all Town streets in the unincorporated areas south of the Long Island Expressway will be cleaned. In week two, from Monday, May 5 to Friday, May 9, Town streets north of the Long Island Expressway will get their turn.

In order to ensure that every area is thoroughly swept and cleaned, the Highway Department asks that residents refrain from parking their vehicles on the street between 7:00 am. - 3:00 pm. During Operation Clean Sweep.
