6/8/2017 - Celebrating The AA Long Island Champions

     The Westbury High School basketball team started off the season with the difficult loss of their assistant coach Edwin Redd. The team dedicated their season to their late coach and made a promise to succeed. The team made history by winning the school’s first AA County and Long Island Championship. The Nassau AA-ll conference, with an 11-1 mark up and a jet through the playoffs. The dragons beat Farmingdale in the first round, then battling the Long Island Champions, the Baldwin Bruins.  Winning their first AA Championship by beating the #1 seed the Uniondale Knights. With a heart pounding game against Half Hollow Hills East the dragons defeated the team and went to play Mount Vernon High school in the state tournament in Binghamton NY, where they played with pride but in the end were defeated. In honor of their many accomplishments as a team Councilwoman Viviana Russell and The Town of North Hempstead has presented the Westbury Basketball Team with signs that will be around the community that will celebrate their accomplishments as the AA Long Island Champions.
